Salt bed
2023-24, Salt and Metal
The Salt Bed series permeates the language of drawing, painting, and even sculpture. Its construction utilizes only organic materials such as metal, salt, and water, and the resulting reactions. As a result, the interaction of the works with the environment creates living works, in constant pictorial and material modification.
The uninterrupted transformation process of the works alludes to the constant transformation of the self and its psychological aspects, more specifically, fear and its overcoming, which can occur through courage.
The body's biological response to fear is often paralysis and stress, which increases adrenaline and stimulates the apocrine glands, producing sweat. Held hostage by fear, the paralyzed body is represented in the artwork by the initially hard metal or salt slab, which will undergo the intervention of grinding or abrasion with salt, generating layers that reveal expressive designs and stains. The state of paralysis is also represented by the bed, an intimate piece of furniture that denotes a prostrate state of being.
