Desconforto
2024 - 25 Photography
In the Desconforto series, broken chairs are placed in distant, empty, and expansive landscapes. The sea, the rice paddies, the dunes, the forest.
The chair is rusty and damaged, without a seat, without a backrest, crooked, uncomfortable, but still usable. A symbol. An expression of solitude and introspection. The idea behind the work deals with the importance of dedicating time to reflect on the big questions of life. Looking back. Letting go of the past. Forgiving. Getting up and moving forward. Growing.
As Doris Salcedo, one of the leading experts, states, the chair is a powerful element: it can represent connection, but also absence.
Distant landscapes become places where the murmur of fields and trees gives way to silence and calm. The coming and going, the life that brings and takes, transformative life lessons. Learning to listen to the whisper of the fields. Slowing down, getting in touch with one's inner self, knowing how to wait and allowing oneself to listen to the silence.
