Één kilo zout

2024

Sculpture

The artwork, titled "één kilo zout," means "one kilo of salt" in Dutch, referring to the artist's origin, and owes its name to the popular saying: "To truly know someone, you have to eat a kilo of salt with them." The expression directly references the time needed to develop intimate relationships and also to refine perceptions. The work consists of a series of miniature wooden beds arranged on a pile of 1 kg of salt.

The refinement of the self, through the processing of emotions and lived experiences, is a point of research for the artist. Used metaphorically, through the process of time between immersing the sculptures in a saline solution and seeing the salt absorbed, naturally crystallizing on the surface, transforming the work over time in contact with the atmosphere and climatic conditions.
